Nick Kingham accomplished something Sunday that only one major league pitcher had achieved in the past century.

In his big league debut, Kingham carried a perfect game into the seventh inning to lead the Pirates to a 5-0 win over the Cardinals.

He joined Johnny Cueto in 2008 as the only pitchers in the past 100 years with one hit allowed, at least nine strikeouts and no walks in their debuts.

Four Yankees Leave Early In Loss To O's

Apr 7, 2018 1:52 PM

Injuries and illnesses piled up for the Yankees during Friday night's 7-3 loss to the Orioles as four players were forced to leave early. Left-hander CC Sabathia was among them, exiting with right hip soreness.

An MRI came back clean, the veteran starter said.

"It was sore, and I've never felt that spot before -- in ever, throwing a baseball -- so it was a little nerve-wracking," Sabathia said.

That appears to be the trend for the banged-up Yankees, who also lost catcher Gary Sanchez and infielders Brandon Drury and Tyler Wade during the game.

Shoehi Otani Earns First MLB Win

Apr 2, 2018 8:10 AM

The Angels held off the Athletics 7-4 on Sunday, with Shohei Ohtani earning the win.

It wasn’t a perfect outing. In the second inning, he hung a slider that Matt Chapman crushed for a three-run home run. His fastball command was shaky at times, and his slider was inconsistent, although it became sharper as the game went on. Most impressive was how he settled down after Chapman’s home run, not rattled by one mistake. After a long rest in the top of the sixth, he finished off his outing in quick order, retiring the A’s on eight pitches.
